Magnolia Overpowers Winless Laguna Beach, 36-0

Magnolia used its size and speed to beat winless Laguna Beach, 36-0, Friday in a nonleague football game.

Magnolia went 99 yards in nine plays to score on their opening drive. Quarterback Anthony Zaragoza capped the drive with a six-yard run at 5:13 in the first quarter.

Magnolia went 63 yards in seven plays for a 12-0 lead in the second quarter. Zaragoza’s runs of 13, 12 and 16 yards set up Will Speer’s one-yard scoring run.

Magnolia outrushed Laguna Beach 163 yards to minus-10 in the first half. Laguna Beach completed eight of 14 passes for 79 yards; Magnolia passed just once for seven yards.

Magnolia sustained an 11-play, 75-yard drive midway through the third quarter to take an 18-0 lead. Speer rushed five times in the drive, eventually setting up Zaragoza’s one-yard run.

Speer rushed for a game-high 94 yards in 16 carries, scoring twice. Zaragoza had 73 yards in nine rushes, also scoring twice. Magnolia rushed for 323 yards.

Gucci Aulette’s 13-yard touchdown run and a four-yard scoring run by Jeremiah Faatili rounded out the scoring.

Laguna Beach quarterback Ryan Schissler completed 15 of 24 passes for 131 yards. His leading receiver was Matt Hellewell, who caught four passes for 78 yards.
