After going one for 30 (.033) in the first four games of the league championship series, the top two batters in Cleveland’s order, Bip Roberts and Omar Vizquel, went three for 10 in the Orioles’ 4-2 Game 5 victory. . . . Indian right-hander Chad Ogea had another strong outing Monday night, giving up two runs and six hits in eight innings, but during his 19 1/3 playoff innings, the Indians have not scored a run in support of him. . . . Cleveland right fielder Manny Ramirez reached base for the eighth consecutive plate appearance when he was hit by a pitch in the first inning Monday night. His streak ended with a third-inning groundout.

TODAY’S GAME

INDIANS’ CHARLES NAGY (15-11, 4.28 ERA) vs. ORIOLES’ MIKE MUSSINA (15-8, 3.20 ERA)

Site--Camden Yards, Baltimore.

TV--1:15 p.m., Channel 4.

* Update--The Orioles led the American League East wire to wire and won the first two division series games against Seattle, so when they fell behind the Indians, three games to one, it marked the first time this season they were not in the position of being pursued. They responded with a 4-2 victory in Game 5 on Monday night but still must win twice at home to reach the World Series for the first time since 1983. “We feel very good about our chances with Mussina pitching,” Baltimore outfielder B.J. Surhoff said. “I’d love to get to a situation where it’s one game for all the marbles.” If the Orioles win tonight, the Indians may have a slight advantage in Game 7 on Thursday night. They’d be able to start veteran Orel Hershiser on four days’ rest, while the Orioles would counter with Scott Erickson on three days’ rest. Erickson started Game 4 on short rest and was bombed for seven runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
