Calvary Chapel had a 17-point fourth-quarter lead, then held off a late Brethren Christian rally to defeat the Warriors, 17-14, in an Olympic League game Saturday night at Westminster High.

The Eagles (5-0-1, 1-0) took a 17-0 lead when John Linzey connected on a 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

On the ensuing possession, a 47-yard pass from Justin Miller to Joey Jopski put the Warriors (2-4, 0-1) at the Eagle 25. Two plays later, they fumbled and the Eagles recovered. However, the Eagles’ Keith Short fumbled the ball back on the next play.

After an incompletion, Miller connected on a 23-yard pass to Armando Lucero to cut the lead to 17-6. After forcing a punt, Miller completed a 38-yard pass to Tyler Hayzlett on the first play to put the Warriors at the 35-yard line.

Ten plays later, Miller again found Hayzlett in the end zone. A two-point conversion pass cut the lead to 17-14. After throwing for only 18 yards in the first half, Miller finished with 205 yards passing (12 of 18 attempts).

Dan Murrietta threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns and Keith Short rushed for 72 yards to lead the Eagles. After a scoreless first quarter, Calvary Chapel took advantage of a punt return by Short that put the Eagles at the 40-yard line.

Murrietta found Lucero twice for touchdowns and the Eagles held a 14-0 halftime lead. Murrietta left the game in the fourth quarter because of a sprained ankle.
