Police Seek Help in Finding Assailant

Share

Oxnard investigators are asking for help in finding the assailant who hit another man so hard that he is still suffering severe physical and emotional trauma three months later.

Richard Sohovich, a 43-year-old intensive care nurse, took a blow to the head July 20 at Champs Bar on South Victoria Avenue in Oxnard, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Dan Christian.

Sohovich was so severely injured by the single blow that he still is unable to communicate with detectives and remains in rehabilitation, Christian said.

Police did not learn of the confrontation until after the bar had closed and have had trouble finding witnesses or anyone who knows the identity of the assailant.

“The ones we’ve talked to so far were conveniently looking the other way when it happened,” Christian said. “The only thing we know so far is that it appeared that he was having a sort of conversation with this person and he just whacked [Sohovich] . . . it was one blow and [Sohovich] went down.”

Police think the assailant was either a Latino or a white man with dark hair and features.

Anyone who was at the bar that night should call Christian at 385-7632 or Sgt. Chris Orsini at 385-7665.
