The Canyon public address announcer played canned crowd noise over the sound system, but the Comanches’ opponent made all the noise in the end zone. Orange defeated Canyon, 21-0, in a Century League game Friday night at El Modena High School.

The Panthers held Canyon to 45 yards total offense, as the Comanches suffered through their third consecutive scoreless game. Orange had 232 yards total offense and 17 first downs.

Orange fullback Mike Hall rushed for 96 yards in 19 carries. He scored Orange’s first touchdown with 25 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a nine-yard run, two plays after an interception by teammate Jon Kobus.

Despite dominating Canyon on both sides of the ball, Orange only had that seven-point lead until midway through the final quarter. Derald Deason gave the Panthers some breathing room when he picked up a fumbled lateral and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.

After Ken Collins intercepted a pass by Canyon quarterback Josh Chelini, Orange drove 79 yards in 11 plays, consuming nearly all of the last six minutes.

Deason scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a 13-yard run.
