WASCO, Calif. —
A woman and her two young children were killed when a fire erupted in a garage converted into two bedrooms.
The garage was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived early Saturday, said Tony Diffenbaugh, spokesman for the Kern County Fire Department. After the flames were doused, firefighters found the bodies of Vicki McCurdy, 35; her son, Ryan Blackwell, 3; and her daughter, Sabrina McCurdy, 4. Eleven people were living at the house, but no other injuries were reported, authorities said.
