Henderson and Haupert Kicking Back for Duke

Josh Henderson and Gaston Haupert, who played at La Canada High, return to the Southland this weekend with sixth-ranked Duke for the Pacific Classic men’s soccer tournament Friday and Sunday at UCLA.

Duke plays Cal State Fullerton Friday at

5:30 p.m., followed by UCLA- Massachusetts.

Henderson, a junior, has seven goals and a team-high 12 assists. Henderson, the 1995 Southern Section Division IV offensive player of the year, is third on the team with 26 points.

Haupert, a sophomore, has one goal and one assist. Haupert did not lose a match at La Canada, helping the Spartans to a 50-0 record and Division IV titles in 1995 and 1996.

Add tournament: No. 9 UCLA features four players from the region. Sophomore midfielder Pete Vagenas (St. Francis) has a goal and five assists, and sophomore defender Nick Paneno (La Canada) has three assists. Adam Cooper (Calabasas) is a junior defender and Caleb Westbay (Royal) is a redshirt freshman midfielder.

Try again: Ross Greaney, a senior midfielder on the San Francisco men’s soccer team, is listed in the Dons’ media guide as a “two-time team MVP at Ventura College.”

One problem: Ventura College has never had a men’s soccer team.

Contacted for clarification, staffers at San Francisco’s sports information office said Greaney, who had 41 goals at St. Bonaventure High, went to Oxnard College, which allows Ventura students to play on its team.

Valley girls: The UC Irvine women’s soccer team, which includes seven Valley and Ventura County players, has earned the No. 3 seeding for the Big West tournament on Nov. 7 and 9.

Junior Nicole Bucciarelli, a Grant High graduate, has 13 goals and six assists for the Anteaters (12-7, 4-2).

Stephanie Rigamat, a freshman forward from Crescenta Valley, has seven goals and six assists.

Other Anteaters from the region are junior midfielder Kori Zimmerman of La Canada, sophomore defender Heidi Reinhard of Crescenta Valley, freshman forward Kristie Nakamura of Thousand Oaks, freshman defender Tammy Rosen of Agoura and junior goalkeeper Jennifer LaFemina of La Reina.
