Lindros Arrives, LeClair Stays Out

Linemates Eric Lindros and John LeClair took different approaches to their contract renegotiations with the Philadelphia Flyers. On the first day of training camp in Voorhees, N.J., Lindros showed up while LeClair did not.

Lindros is in the option year of a contract scheduled to pay him a base of $3.6 million this season. LeClair is in the middle of a five-year, $7-million deal signed after the 1995 season.

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Daren Puppa reported no lingering problems after surgery last November to repair a herniated disk. . . . An arbitrator might have to decide if Pat LaFontaine will be allowed to resume his career with the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have denied LaFontaine, sidelined since last November because of a concussion, permission to join training camp on the advice of their doctors. . . . Tom Watt, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ coach for two seasons from 1990-92, was released as the club’s pro scout.
