Ventura Woman Injured in Collision Dies

A 66-year-old woman who was critically injured in a car crash two days earlier died Tuesday afternoon at a local hospital, authorities said.

Carmel Ronchetti of Ventura was a passenger in a car traveling west on Olivas Park Drive on Sunday when it collided with an oncoming car driven by Charles Fox, 18, of Ventura that made a left turn in front of it, California Highway Patrol spokesman David Cockrill said.

The cars collided and Ronchetti was trapped in the wreckage. She had to be pried free by firefighters.

Ronchetti was taken to Community Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She died about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The investigation is continuing. Fox was not cited, but could face further action if authorities conclude that he committed a violation that caused the crash.
