Gators’ Jawing Prompts Quick Revision
As if a four-game losing streak to Florida wasn’t enough incentive for Tennessee heading into its annual showdown Saturday with the Gators, Florida tailback Fred Taylor provided this bulletin board nugget:
“They can’t beat us. They know they can’t beat us,” Taylor said, when asked if the No. 4 Vols can end their losing streak against No. 3 Florida.
After an afternoon practice--and a little chat with Coach Steve Spurrier--Taylor was singing a different tune.
“I forgot the ‘think’ part,” Taylor told reporters.
Spurrier was close on his heels.
“Fred, did you tell them what you said? ‘In my opinion, I think we’ll win,’ ” Spurrier said.
Right tackle Mo Collins also made an incendiary remark, saying: “I think [Tennessee quarterback] Peyton Manning is highly overrated.”

Idaho State Coach Tom Walsh apologized for remarks he made during a postgame radio show after the Bengals’ 43-0 loss to Idaho on Saturday.
Walsh compared ISU’s play in the defeat to that of “a bunch of paraplegics.”
