Charging Stations to Be Built for Electric Cars
The city of San Gabriel has become the latest municipality in its namesake valley to approve the construction of charging stations for electric cars.
The City Council on Tuesday voted to spend $42,000 in state and county grants to build the charging stations at three locations. The San Gabriel project is part of a plan to create a corridor of charging stations along the San Bernardino and Foothill freeways, said San Gabriel civil engineer Douglas Benash.
“It’s an effort to promote the electric vehicle as a way to decrease emissions in the Los Angeles Basin,” Benash said.
Other planned charging stations will be in El Monte, Baldwin Park, West Covina, Glendora and San Dimas, Benash said, as well as at Southern California Edison buildings in Rosemead, Irwindale and Pomona.
