OK, so Los Alamitos is a slow starter. But man, can the Griffins finish.

The county’s sixth-ranked team fell behind for the second consecutive week but scored on its first five possessions and rolled to a 56-15 nonleague victory over Los Angeles Washington Thursday at Gahr High School.

Los Alamitos (2-0) fell behind in its season opener against Cypress, 7-0, then reeled off 35 consecutive points.

Same thing happened Thursday. And then some.

Quarterback Zack Blazek completed 17 of 19 passes for 318 yards and five touchdowns. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 254 yards in the first half.

He had scoring passes to Blair Havens (18 and 47 yards), Keenan Howry (32 yards) and Ryan Godfrey (52 yards). Godfrey also caught a 15-yard score in the second half.

“Everything was just there,” said Blazek, a senior. “Coach had a great game plan, the offensive line was out of this world--I didn’t get touched--the wide receivers caught the ball, we blocked well downfield.”

Seven players caught passes, and four caught touchdown passes, including Steve Bagley (29 yards) from backup quarterback Ryan Hanson.

The Griffins also showed some balance. Josiah Doby rushed 10 times for 81 yards by halftime before twisting an ankle. He had a 16-yard touchdown run after John Gonzales recovered a Washington fumble.

On its next possession, Los Alamitos drove 99 yards in seven plays--the first two were encroachment penalties against Washington--that ended with Blazek passing 32 yards to Howry, wide open, falling into the end zone.

The other most notable play of the first half was Havens’ 47-yard scoring reception; he scored because of Howry’s downfield block.

Howry finished with six catches for 123 yards, Havens five for 91.

Things didn’t start any better in the second half for Washington (0-2), when Los Alamitos’ Adolph Keyes returned the kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.
