Girl Killed, Boy Hurt by Backing Truck
A man backing a truck in his driveway Monday accidentally ran over and killed his 4-year-old daughter and critically injured his 8-year-old nephew, police said.
About 11:25 a.m., Adams Hosen Mohamad, 40, was leaving his home in the 800 block of East Wakeham Avenue to return to work in a produce-hauling truck, Police Lt. Dave Petko said. He had last seen his daughter, Benazeer, and her cousin, Majera Moussa, playing in the backyard, Petko said.
Mohamad said he felt a bump while backing up the truck, but continued because he thought he had hit the curb, Petko said. When he pulled into the street he saw the children lying in the driveway, Petko said.
The children were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Benazeer died of her injuries and Majera was in critical condition Monday night, a nursing supervisor said.
