Baughman, Baeder Pace Bolsa Grande to 42-14 Victory
GARDEN GROVE — Quarterback Doug Baughman and wide receiver Sam Baeder hooked up for four touchdowns to lead Bolsa Grande over La Puente Bassett, 42-14, in a nonleague football game Friday at Bolsa Grande High.
Baughman completed 15 of 30 passes for 223 yards with one interception. Baeder had six receptions for 113 yards.
The Matadors (2-1) closed the curtain on the first half when the Baughman hit Baeder with a nine-yard touchdown pass to put Bolsa Grande ahead, 28-0.
“As long as the team works hard we should be all right,” Baughman said. “You cannot underestimate our offense.”
Bolsa Grande running back Steve Gilson broke loose on a trap play for 21 yards with 12 seconds left in the first quarter to open the scoring.
Bassett avoided a shutout when running back Juan Orozco scored on a 22-yard run to make it 42-7.
Thomas Rivas scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The drive was set up by Rudy Parra’s interception and return to Bolsa Grande 20.
Bolsa Grande finished the game with 266 yards total offense.
The Olympians had 138.
