LAX Wins Top Awards for Handling of Cargo
Los Angeles International Airport has been named “best cargo airport in North America” for a fifth consecutive year in a survey of 13,000 readers of Cargonews Asia, airport officials announced Tuesday.
LAX handled the second-largest freight and mail tonnage in the world last year--2.1 million tons, an increase of 9% over 1996, said Airport Executive Director John Driscoll. More than 843,000 tons of cargo passing through LAX is international in origin or destination and is valued at an estimated $62 billion annually.
The airport was also named “best air cargo terminal operator--North America.”
