ART

Casino Bound: First, museums launched a trend toward splashy “treasures” exhibitions--displaying fine and decorative arts from imperial palaces and manor houses around the world. Then, convention centers in cities without a major museum got in on the act. And now, it’s Las Vegas’ turn: The Rio All-Suite Casino Resort has announced a first for the desert playground, “Treasures of Russia From Peterhof--Palaces of the Czars,” coming to the hotel Nov. 7 for a five-month run. Paintings, bronzes and Faberge eggs will be laid out in the 20,000-square-foot show, selected from the vast holdings of the sumptuous summer residence established in 1709 by Peter I on the Gulf of Finland outside St. Petersburg. Now a cash-strapped museum, the Peterhof will get an undisclosed fee for the show, and the Rio will also underwrite restoration costs for several objects, including Peter’s imperial throne.

TELEVISION

‘Toon in April 22: Responding to viewer complaints, Comedy Central has moved up an episode of its animated hit “South Park” in which the father of the character Cartman is revealed. It will air April 22. The network received nearly 2,000 complaints after it failed to reveal Cartman’s paternity, as promised, during an episode that was broadcast April 1. The April Fools’ show aimed to poke fun at the concept of cliffhanger television, the network said.

ABC News Closing Bureau: ABC News will close its seven-person San Francisco bureau when correspondent Ken Kashiwahara retires in June. ABC News spokeswoman Eileen Murphy said that San Francisco will be covered from the network’s Los Angeles bureau in the future, although some of the seven San Francisco staffers may get jobs at the ABC-owned station KGO-TV. “We are undergoing a company-wide review of budgets,” Murphy said, adding that no cutbacks are planned in the Los Angeles bureau.
