The Masters, and All You Ever Wanted to Know About Tiger

Can Tiger Woods repeat his stunning win of the Masters golf tournament this year? First-round coverage from Augusta, Ga., tees off at 1 p.m. today on cable’s USA, with highlights at 11:35 tonight on Channel 2. Coverage continues at the same time Friday on USA and CBS. Third-round action is scheduled on CBS for Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with the final round set for Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS.

The young star is profiled on “Tiger Woods: The Heart of a Champion,” Saturday at 10 a.m. on Channel 2. Also set is Showtime’s “The Tiger Woods Story,” Sunday at 8 p.m. Khalil Kain stars as Woods in this unauthorized bio-pic.

Today

A&E;’s “The New Explorers,” at 6 and 10 p.m., follows a group of scientists around Yellowstone as they study tiny microbes on “Searching for the Origins of Life.”

KCET’s “Life & Times Tonight” offers a one-hour examination of Southern California college admissions, 7:30 p.m. on Channel 28.

Whoopi Goldberg hosts ABC’s “A Gala for the President at Ford’s Theatre,” at 10 p.m. on Channel 7. President Clinton and the first lady will attend.

Friday

“Frame After Frame: The Images of Herman Leonard” looks at the life and work of the photographer whose portraits of ‘30s and ‘40s jazz legends are in a permanent collection at the Smithsonian, at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 28.

Saturday

Mark Kriski and Roland Galvin host an earthquake special for kids called “Care & Prepare,” at 11:30 a.m. on Channel 5.

With “A League of Legends,” at 7 p.m. on Channel 7, the Los Angeles Urban League pays tribute to past winners of the Whitney A. Young Award, named in honor of the civil rights leader. Quincy Jones, Norman Lear, John Wooden and former Los Angeles Police Chief Willie Williams are set to appear.

Oprah Winfrey hosts “Quincy Jones: The First 50 Years,” at 8 p.m. on Channel 7. ABC’s two-hour tribute to the record, TV and film producer features biographical sequences and performances by Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Lesley Gore and Gloria Estefan.

Sunday

Fleetwood Mac, the Spice Girls and Chumbawamba are scheduled to perform on “The BRIT Awards ‘98,” at 2:35 a.m. on Channel 7.

Regis Philbin and Ann Jillian co-host ABC’s coverage of the 14th annual “Walt Disney World Happy Easter Parade,” at 12:30 p.m. Also featured is a sneak preview of Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, a wildlife preserve set to open soon.

Lance Henriksen is Abraham Lincoln and Rob Morrow is his assassin John Wilkes Booth in “The Day Lincoln Was Shot,” at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. on TNT.

ABC dusts off Cecil B. DeMille’s 1956 classic “The Ten Commandments,” at 7 p.m. on Channel 7. Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner and Anne Baxter head the cast of thousands.

“Biography--Diana: The True Story,” at 6 and 9 p.m. on A&E;, is a two-hour documentary on the late Princess of Wales.

E! Entertainment Television presents “Robert Downey Jr.: The True Hollywood Story,” at 8 p.m.
