Police Shoot Dog 6 Times in Raid on Drug Lab
Police officers shot and wounded a pit bull that charged them during a Tuesday night search of a house targeted in a methamphetamine investigation, a department spokesman said.
The dog was shot six times by a pair of Huntington Beach officers working with a regional task force searching a home in 800 block of California Street, according to Lt. Jon Arnold. The wounded animal was turned over to county animal control, he said. No officers were reportedly bitten by the dog.
The incident is under investigation by the department’s administrative investigations team, a routine procedure in officer-involved shootings.
Three men were arrested on suspicion of drug charges during the raid, which led to the seizure of an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and the equipment and ingredients used to “cook” the illegal drug, according to Lt. Hector Rivera of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The men taken into custody were identified as Michael James Abraham, 27, and Edwin Eugene Muller, 34, both of Huntington Beach, and Jay Evans, 35, of Westminster.
