A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday after he crashed into a car that apparently swerved in front of him in Irvine, police said.

The man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, died of head injuries, said Irvine Police Sgt. Tim Smith.

The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. near Harvard Avenue and San Juan, Smith said.

Smith said a car traveling north on Harvard made a lane change, apparently in front of the motorcyclist.

The motorcycle sideswiped the car, causing him to lose control and hit a light pole, Smith said.

Irvine police closed a stretch of Harvard for three hours to conduct their investigation.

No charges have been filed, Smith said. Witnesses are asked to call Investigator Doug Coffing at (949) 724-7024.
