Fountain Valley’s Ellis Shuts Out Los Alamitos

Senior right-hander Danny Ellis pitched a three-hitter in Fountain Valley’s 4-0 victory over Los Alamitos in Sunset League baseball Friday.

Ellis (3-4) had seven strikeouts. Nick Stavale hit a home run in the fifth for the Barons (13-7, 6-3).

In other Sunset League games:

No. 10 Huntington Beach 13, Marina 12--Huntington Beach sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring 11 runs with no outs to rally from a 9-2 deficit. In the inning, Ty Bonchonsky had a single and double and two RBIs and Shaun Shuck singled, tripled and had two RBIs. Shuck was three for four in the game for Huntington Beach (12-8, 4-5). Marina is 7-13, 4-5.

Esperanza 3, Edison 2--Sal Deanda’s home run in the fifth lifted host Esperanza (11-8-1, 5-3-1). Nick Gore’s two-run homer in the fourth with no outs tied the score for the Aztecs.

In the Century League:

No. 5 Canyon 9, Orange 6--Jason Corapci had two hits and two stolen bases and Ryan Smith doubled, homered and drove in four runs for Canyon (16-4, 8-1).

Santa Ana Valley 4, Villa Park 2 (8)--With one out and runners on first and third, Danny Montoya laid down a squeeze bunt, scoring Edgar Razo with the winning run in the top of the eighth. Santa Ana Valley (8-12, 2-7) added one more run on a double steal, with Rolando Ramirez stealing home.

In the Empire League:

No. 7 El Dorado 10, Loara 2--Ryan Ralph hit a grand slam in the top of the third to give El Dorado a 6-0 lead in the top of the third. Justin Angevine, despite giving up 12 hits, pitched a complete game to improve to 4-0. Joe Turgeon was three for four for El Dorado (13-7, 7-2).

Cypress 9, Katella 5--The bottom of the batting order produced for visiting Cypress. Rich Herrera had three hits and two RBIs and Jeff Hosler had three hits and four RBIs for Cypress (12-8, 5-4).

Kennedy 5, Century 0--Brian Sutliff (5-1) struck out eight, walked two and retired the last 10 hitters in a one-hitter for Kennedy (12-8, 5-4).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 8, Sonora 1--Phil Girod pitched a five-hitter for Fullerton (11-7, 5-4). Girod got 15 outs on ground balls.

Sonora is 6-13, 4-5.

In the Garden Grove League:

No. 2 La Quinta 12, Bolsa Grande 0 (6, mercy)--Adriel Gomez had a grand slam in the sixth inning for La Quinta (20-1, 7-0).

Garden Grove 5, Rancho Alamitos 2--Justin Clarkson pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out 10 for Garden Grove (9-9, 5-2).

In the Golden West League:

No. 8 Tustin 16, Saddleback 4--Chad Chop went four for four with four runs scored and Omar Barrera had two hits and three RBIs for Tustin (16-3, 7-2).

Ocean View 10, Westminster 5--Jason Martini (3-1) threw six innings, giving up three hits and one earned run and striking out five for Ocean View (11-9, 7-2).

In in the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 9, Anaheim 8 (8)--Ian Keleher’s two-out grand slam tied the score for Anaheim in the top of the seventh, but Brea Olinda won the game on Greg Stoddard’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Travis Vaughan had three hits and two runs scored and Stoddard had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three for the Wildcats (14-5-1, 8-0-1).

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Santa Margarita 15, Newport Harbor 1 (5, mercy)--Casey Grzecka had a double, home run and four RBIs for Santa Margarita (16-4, 8-1). Nick Mosich and Andy Hopper each had a home run for the Eagles.

Woodbridge 2, No. 9 El Toro 0--Zach Foster held El Toro scoreless for six innings before tiring in the seventh as the Chargers loaded the bases with two outs. Steve Terwiske came on in relief and got a groundout to end the game for his third save of the season for Woodbridge (13-6, 7-2).

El Toro is 5-4 in league.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 8, Mission Viejo 7 (10)--Patt Manning’s solo homer in the 10th gave Mater Dei (16-3, 8-1) the victory. Mission Viejo loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th with one out, but Jeff Creighton hit into a double play.

Josh Hansen’s two-run homer in the fifth tied the score, 7-7, for Mater Dei. Hansen was two for five with two RBIs. Sophomore John Hudgins struck out 14 for Mission Viejo (12-7, 4-5), which scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second.

Dana Hills 6, Capistrano Valley 4--Justin Moschina had a two-run homer in the second and an RBI single in the third to give Dana Hills (13-6, 6-3) a 3-0 lead.
