Corey’s Impressive Stretch Could Lead to Promotion
Bryan Corey (Thousand Oaks High, Pierce College) had not allowed a run in seven innings during his first three appearances for the triple-A Tucson Sidewinders. He got victories in two of the games. Continued effectiveness could earn him a quick promotion to the Arizona Diamondbacks, whose shaky bullpen is already giving Manager Buck Showalter fits. Corey, chosen by the Diamondbacks from the Detroit Tigers in the November expansion draft, impressed Arizona coaches during spring training. A shortstop in high school and junior college, Corey, 24, has pitched for only three years. “He just needs a little more seasoning, but we really like Bryan Corey,” Diamondbacks pitching coach Mark Connor said.
