Detours Just Ahead on Santa Ana Freeway

Share

A connector from the Santa Ana Freeway to the Riverside Freeway will be closed for about 15 hours Sunday while road crews work on the ramp.

Drivers headed north on the Santa Ana Freeway to the westbound Riverside Freeway will have to make a detour by continuing to Beach Boulevard, turning south and then catching the Riverside Freeway at the Beach onramp.

The work is scheduled to begin at midnight tonight and continue until about 3 p.m. Sunday.

Another obstacle for drivers on the northbound Santa Ana Freeway will be a three-month closure of the onramp at Orangethorpe Avenue.

Starting Monday, motorists who usually get on the freeway there should turn north on Beach Boulevard from Orangethorpe and then left at the Manchester Boulevard north onramp.

Work to relocate a water main is forcing the Orangethorpe ramp’s closure.

The $1.1-billion project to improve the north Santa Ana Freeway began in December 1996 and is a joint effort of the state Department of Transportation and the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The work is designed to improve ramps and add high-occupancy-vehicle and multipurpose lanes.

Work is expected to continue until 2000.
