God save this queen and Vern; new game shows are ‘Off the Wall’ and full of hidden-camera dares

Hey, Vern: In Ernest Rides Again (Sunday at 7 p.m.), starring Jim Varney, bumbling, accident-prone Ernest is up against a runaway pre-Revolutionary cannon and a vacuum cleaner salesman as he tries to protect the crown jewels of England. The 1993 film airs on “The Wonderful World of Disney” on ABC. For the family.

Kids get to put grownups on the spot in Nickelodeon’s new comedy game show, You’re On! (Monday at 4:30 p.m.; moves to regular slot of Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.). In the tradition of hidden-video captured bloopers, pairs of kids team up to compete for prizes by trying to persuade passersby to perform such wacky tasks as imitating a penguin, barking like a seal and drinking “ostrich milk.” Phil Moore is the host; Travis White and Vivianne Collins go out on location. For ages 6 to 11.

Off the Wall, another new game show option for kids, this one on the Disney Channel (Monday through Friday at 5 p.m.), pits teams of contestants against pre-taped “video challengers.” The feats range from a race to unroll rolls of toilet paper, to naming United States presidents. Finalists compete against a member of the studio audience. For ages 9 to 11.

He can’t play a note, but this Beethoven deserves an encore: The comedy starring Charles Grodin, Bonnie Hunt, Dean Jones and 185 lovable pounds of hairy, slobbery pooch, will be presented by USA Networks (Friday, 1 p.m.). For the family.

A recipe for fun: Bill Cosby, Art Linkletter and kids. A repeat of Kids Say the Darndest Things (Friday, 8 p.m.) serves up smiles as the Cos and a panel of 4- to 8-year-olds talk about how to bury a dead goldfish, fortune-telling and a dad’s hidden love letters. Linkletter shares classic clips from his “House Party” days, revealing some rather unusual Biblical interpretations. For the family.
