New Age Murder Followed by a ‘Movie Lounge’ Chaser

This weekend’s movie offerings include an A&E; mystery, a Disney Channel kids’ flick, an adventure featuring a teenage Hercules and TBS’ new, tongue-in-cheek franchise.

Inspector Barnaby (John Nettles) investigates a murder at a New Age commune on A&E;’s “Midsomer Murders,” Friday at 6 and 10 p.m. The conclusion airs next week at the same time.

The Disney Channel movie, “Brink!,” Saturday at 7 and 8:35 p.m., follows the adventures of an in-line skater who wants to win fame and glory at a competition.

The “Dinner and Movie” franchise has been a big hit with TBS. The cable network’s latest movie showcase is “The Movie Lounge,” which premieres Saturday at 7:10 p.m. Set in a cocktail lounge, the series will feature guests discussing each week’s movie. The first film is “The War of the Roses” and in-studio guests include model Rebecca Rimijn, Alyson Hannigan (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and Dave Coulier (“Full House”).

Ian Bohen stars as a 17-year-old hero in “Young Hercules,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on the Fox Family Channel.

Paul Hogan, Judge Reinhold and Rosanna Arquette star in Showtime’s “Floating Away,” Sunday at 9 p.m. The drama deals with an alcoholic mother who gets two recovering drunks to help her reclaim her child.

Today

On ABC’s “Nightline in Primetime,” at 10 p.m. on Channel 7, Ted Koppel spends a night in a high-tech prison.

English teachers in Washington and Tehran chat about social and political differences between the countries on “Vis-a-Vis,” at 10 p.m. on Channel 28.

KOCE presents “We Made It Through the Rain,” at 10 p.m. on Channel 50, featuring battered women discussing their abusive relationships.

Friday

The History Channel’s “Frontier Docs,” at 5 and 9 p.m., focuses on doctors who created unique ways of dealing with disease.

NBC offers an episode of its daytime soap “Sunset Beach” at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. In the one-hour edition, a tidal wave strikes a ship, trapping “Sunset” residents on board.

Violinist Gil Shaham and singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie join conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on PBS’ “Evening at Pops,” at 9 p.m. on Channel 28.

Saturday

Huell Howser samples dozens of treats at the L.A. Tofu Festival on “Visiting . . . With Huell Howser,” at 6 p.m. on Channel 28.

Sunday

ABC kicks off its college football coverage at 11:30 a.m. on Channel 7, with Purdue against USC at the Coliseum.

“Bravo Profiles” explores the career of TV producer Steven Bochco (“Hill Street Blues,” “NYPD Blue”), at 5 p.m.

Underwater photographer and director Al Giddings travels to the Micronesian atoll of Truk Lagoon on “Truk Lagoon: Underwater Odyssey,” at 6 p.m. on TBS.

PBS’ “Live from Lincoln Center,” at 8 p.m. on Channel 28, presents the Broadway production of “Twelfth Night or What You Will,” starring Helen Hunt, Paul Rudd and Kyra Sedgwick.

TNT presents the latest installment of the documentary “The Warner Bros. Story: No Guts, No Glory--75 Years of the Blockbuster,” at 8 p.m.

E! Entertainment Television presents “Princess Diana: The E! True Hollywood Story,” on the eve of the first anniversary of her death, at 8 p.m.
