Jankovich To Become CSUN Athletic Director

Share

Sam Jankovich, a former athletic director at Miami, has agreed to become the interim athletic director at Cal State Northridge, sources said Monday.

Jankovich is not interested in the position on a long-term basis and Northridge will begin a search for a permanent athletic director soon. But Jankovich, who was director of player personnel for the New England Patriots after leaving a seven-year stint at Miami in 1990, brings a wealth of experience.

“This gives us instant credibility,” one Northridge coach said. “He will analyze every aspect of this program and make serious recommendations. Sam Jankovich will be the shot in the arm we need.”

Men’s basketball coach Bobby Braswell has been the administrator in charge of athletics since Paul Bubb resigned under pressure on Nov. 3, a week after women’s basketball coach Michael Abraham was arrested in the Northridge gym and charged with selling crack cocaine.

Jankovich was unavailable for comment and calls to his home in Hayden Lake, Idaho, were not returned.

Sources said he will meet with Northridge administrators today.
