Second-seeded Irvine dominated the teams’ previous meeting, 42-18. The Vaqueros sacked Greg Orlando three times and stuffed the Eagles’ running game, allowing only 97 yards in 36 carries. Still, Orlando passed for 237 yards, caught a 79-yard halfback pass, and Santa Margarita gained 413 yards overall. Santa Margarita must have better line play on both sides of the ball. Irvine’s Dave Doomey rushed 22 times for 250 yards, and Sean Van de Merghel passed for 215. Santa Margarita is trying to win its third consecutive section title, which Irvine accomplished 1991-93.
