Potvin Leaves Maple Leafs
Felix Potvin has left the Toronto Maple Leafs. The goaltender, awaiting a trade since July, released a statement Saturday night announcing his departure.
“As a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization for the past eight years, I have given my maximum effort each day and have always been proud to be a member of this great city’s hockey club,” Potvin said. “Today, however, it is with great regret that I have chosen to leave the organization.”
Potvin demanded a trade after the Maple Leafs acquired free agent Curtis Joseph. Potvin was Toronto’s No. 1 goaltender for five seasons but was bumped to a backup role when Joseph was signed to a four-year, $24-million contract.

Philadelphia Flyer center Eric Lindros was fined $1,000 for a slashing Buffalo’s Jay McKee Friday night. The fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL’s contract with the players’ union.
