UCI’s Bailey Wins Award

UC Irvine water polo player Ryan Bailey was named co-player of the year and Anteater Coach Ted Newland shared the coach of the year award with Pepperdine’s Terry Schroeder in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the conference announced Monday.

Stanford’s Layne Beaubien was the other co-player of the year.

Stanford’s Brian Heifferon, a graduate of Servite, was named second-team all-conference.

UCLA senior forward Seth George, formerly of Santa Margarita High, was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer co-player of the year, the conference announced.

He shared the honor with Stanford’s Simon Elliott.

Cal State Fullerton’s Colby Jackson, who led the conference in scoring with 17 goals and eight assists, and Washington goalkeeper Peter Van de Ven (Santa Ana) also earned first-team honors.

Fullerton’s Art Ramirez (Huntington Beach High) and UCI’s Pat Lee (Los Alamitos) earned second-team honors. Fullerton’s Alessio Smith (Newport Harbor) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Brenton Junge (Trabuco Hills High) earned honorable-mention honors.
