Turner, Wilder to Return

Jarvis Turner and Quincy Wilder are expected to be back in uniform against Loyola Marymount on Wednesday after serving one-game suspensions for academic violations.

“The policy is, you don’t miss class,” Coach Henry Bibby said. “There’s no reason to miss class. We don’t accept that.”

A junior forward, Turner, one of the team’s veterans, has started three of the first four games this season. A few days before his suspension, he scored a season-high 16 points and had six rebounds against St. Bonaventure.

Wilder, a junior college transfer, is averaging five points and three rebounds but has struggled to adapt to his role as a substitute guard.

“I think Quincy is having some problems, like every kid who has been a star in a program, who comes in and doesn’t play the minutes he would like to play,” Bibby said. “I think he’s making some big adjustments in his career.”

The Trojans shot a season-high 28 three-pointers against UC Santa Barbara on Friday night. They made a season-high 12 for a 42% average.

“We’re a confident team,” guard Brandon Granville said. “Our offense was going pretty well.”

But Bibby wants his perimeter players looking to pass inside before they try to score. He doesn’t want them reverting to the quick-shooting ways of last season’s 9-19 team.

“The jump shot is going to win you some games,” Bibby said. “But you end up winning nine games when you’re living on the jump shot.”
