Campbell Hall Gets Home Free, 55-53

Hassan Bassiri sank two free throws with 11 seconds, clinching Campbell Hall High’s 55-53 victory over Buena on Wednesday in the second round of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Bassiri, whose free throws gave the Vikings (5-0) a 55-51 lead, scored his only other points on a three-point play in the second quarter.

Josh Levy scored 12 of his 15 points in the third quarter to help Campbell Hall (5-0) rally from a 10-point deficit to tie the game, 40-40, at the end of the quarter.

Peter Brown had 29 points for Buena.

Taft 74, Carson 66--Raja Boykins made seven of eight three-point shots and scored 29 points, and the Toreadors (3-1) built a 23-point lead and survived a rally by the Colts at Taft.

Carson (2-3) outscored Taft, 31-16, in the final quarter.

Harvard-Westlake 61, Oak Park 39--Russell Lakey had seven points and six steals for the Wolverines in a victory at the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Eric Geffner had seven points and 15 rebounds for Harvard-Westlake (3-0).

Valencia 58, Century 50--Royce Minor scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Vikings won in pool play of the Century tournament.

Minor and Eskias McDaniels, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots, helped the Vikings (3-1) pull away after Century tied the score, 37-37, at the end of the third quarter.

Mike Cepeda, a 6-10 center, scored 33 points for Century (1-3).

Moorpark 73, Dos Pueblos 61--Todd Tomlinson made 14 of 25 shots, including five three-pointers, and the Musketeers won in round-robin play in the Channel Islands tournament.

Tomlinson scored 10 of his 33 points in the third quarter, when Moorpark (2-1) outscored the Chargers, 24-15, to build a 13-point lead.

Pasadena Marshall 59, Notre Dame 52--Cody Pearson’s four-point play with nine seconds left in regulation tied the game but the Knights lost in overtime at Notre Dame.

Pearson, who had 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals, hit a three-point shot and a free throw to get Notre Dame (1-4) even, 48-48.

David Mackey hit a three-pointer to put Marshall ahead for good, 53-52.

Faith Baptist 66, Buckley 54--Stefan Grasu, a 6-7 center, had 19 points and 20 rebounds to help the Contenders win the third-place game in the Milken tournament.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hart 50, Highland 38--Briana Kentfield scored 20 points and Christina Sanchez had 10 of her 12 in the first half, and the Indians (1-1) beat Highland (5-2) in pool play in the Buena tournament.

Buena 80, Santa Clara 23--Courtney LaVere scored 16 points, and Kelly Greathouse and Kelly Murray each added 14 for the Bulldogs (1-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, in pool play in the Buena tournament.

Ventura 64, Camarillo 28--Kristine Gleisberg had 15 points for the Cougars in a pool-play victory in the Buena tournament.

Eisenhower 53, Simi Valley 52--Janera Webber, who had 18 points, hit a three-pointer with six seconds left to give the Eagles (4-0) a victory in a second-round game of the St. Lucy’s tournament.

Annmarie Turpin scored 14 points and Jamie Turpin added 13 for Simi Valley (3-1).

Santa Barbara 57, Royal 43--The Dons pulled away in the final eight minutes of a pool-play game in the Rio Mesa tournament.

Kristen Galbreath had 17 points for Royal (0-1).

Lancaster 40, Santa Paula 36--Diane Everett’s basket with five seconds to play clinched a victory for the Eagles (1-3) in the Valencia tournament after the Cardinals used a 9-2 run to get close.

Verdugo Hills 48, Lincoln 40--Mari Felix had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Dons (3-2, 2-0) in a Northern Conference victory at Lincoln.
