Abe Hirschfeld, the parking lot tycoon who offered Paula Corbin Jones $1 million to settle her sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton, was charged Thursday with trying to have his former business partner killed.

Hirschfeld, 79, is accused of giving an intermediary $75,000 last year as a down payment for a hit man to kill Stanley Stahl, his real estate investment partner of 40 years, prosecutors said.

Stahl, 73, was alerted to the plot and was not hurt, but he started riding in a bulletproof car.

Hirschfeld was arrested late Wednesday at his Fifth Avenue home and charged with criminal solicitation, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison.

State Supreme Court Justice Laura Drager set bail at $1 million but released Hirschfeld on his own recognizance until Monday, when he must post bail in cash or go to jail.

Hirschfeld said he is the victim of a frame-up by two other people.

In October, Hirschfeld offered Jones $1 million to settle her lawsuit.

Hirschfeld withdrew the offer a few weeks later after he said Jones’ attorneys rebuffed him. Last month, Clinton agreed to pay Jones $850,000 to end the case.
