Lineup Still Far From Set

Share

Partly because of injuries and partly because of coaching decisions, Steve Lavin has used six opening lineups in seven games and still is not prepared to say he will stick with the latest.

Earl Watson, Baron Davis, JaRon Rush, Jerome Moiso and Dan Gadzuric would have been the projected first five. But, Lavin said earlier this week, “It’s too early to say it’s in stone.”

Matt Barnes has started four games, Ryan Bailey three and Rico Hines two.

Some of that jockeying occurred before Davis returned from his knee injury. But Lavin also has been looking for the right combination.

“Every day we learn something new about this team,” he said. “I guess that’s exciting.”

Travis Reed has not started, but Lavin noted that there were “games when you could build a case” for that. Reed had 16 points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes against Delaware State, and 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes against Oklahoma State.
