Chatsworth Advances, Will Meet Old Friends
Fluke Fluker had almost boundless energy Friday night as he paced back and forth along the Chatsworth High bench during the Chancellors’ 64-50 victory over Quartz Hill in the Valencia boys’ basketball tournament semifinal.
The Chatsworth coach wanted to make sure his team advanced to play Alemany in tonight’s final.
Three of Alemany’s starters played at San Fernando last year, a Northwest Valley Conference rival of Chatsworth.
“We all go way back,” Fluker said. “We know each other real well.”
The Chancellors (7-2) received a balanced performance, led by forward Richard Harrison. The 6-foot-6 senior forward scored 15 points, had 12 rebounds and was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.
Chatsworth took control in the second quarter, grabbing a 29-24 lead as Harrison made eight free throws.
Ronald Ruffin scored 16 points and five players finished with at least eight points for Chatsworth.
“We’re playing with a lot of confidence,” Harrison said. “We’ve played tough teams early and done well.”
Jason Tomlin scored 13 points for Quartz Hill (7-3).
