Master’s Hangs On by Fingertips, 59-57
Joey Penberthy tipped in his missed shot with two seconds left to give The Master’s College a 59-57 victory over Cal State Los Angeles in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Master’s.
Penberthy, who scored 18 points, made four of seven shots and eight free throws without a miss.
Damon Lanier scored 12 points and hit five of six shots for the Mustangs (6-5).
In other men’s games:
Cal Lutheran 59, Wartburg College 56--Forward Mike Dulaney and reserve Justin Muth each scored 19 points to help the Kingsmen take third place in the Lutheran Brotherhood tournament at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (4-4) opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 37-34 lead.
Center Trent Hoover scored 15 points for the Knights (5-3), who made 22 of 57 shots.
Cal Lutheran made 24 of 56 shots and were outrebounded, 39-31. Dulaney had 11 rebounds.
Canyons 85, Antelope Valley 65--The Cougars switched to a full-court press and Charles Madison scored all of his 19 points in the second half to help win the third-place game in the Canyons tournament.
Anthony Ellison had 26 points and 11 rebounds for Canyons (10-8) while Madison made five three-pointers. Eurskine Robinson contributed 11 points and 14 assists.
Le’Tre Kelley scored 20 for the Marauders (6-11).
L.A. Southwest 83, Moorpark 70--Alan Case had 14 points and Justin Beach added 13 and had five rebounds but the Raiders lost a consolation game in the Canyons tournament.
O.J. Thomas had 12 points and seven assists for Moorpark (7-9).
Reggie Morris scored 16 points for the Cougars (9-8).
Oxnard 78, Cerro Coso 67--Chris Carter had 12 of his 18 points in the second half and the Condors won a nonconference game at Cerro Coso in Ridgecrest.
Tellys Knight had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Omar McCarter scored 18 for Oxnard (9-7).
Andre Mahorn had 26 points for Cerro Coso.
