Spiker Stops Merced in Golden West Rout
Chad Spiker limited Merced to one run on seven hits and struck out six as host Golden West defeated Merced, 13-1, Saturday in a Mitsubishi Classic baseball game.
Casey Flanigan was three for three with two doubles and two runs batted in for Golden West (5-0).
In another Mitsubishi Classic game:
Mt. San Jacinto 5, Saddleback 3--Kirk Bollings’ two-run single in the eighth tied the score for Saddleback at 3-3. In the top of the ninth, a walk, fielder’s choice and two more walks forced Roddy Fryer across with the eventual winning run. A sacrifice fly by Chris Moore added a run for Mt. San Jacinto (1-4).
In the Apache Classic:
Southwestern 10, Orange Coast 4--Southwestern (5-0) scored six runs on one hit, four walks, and two errors in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie.
