Forecast for 1st Half of Week: 100% Iffy

San Fernando Valley residents should get a break from the rainstorms by Wednesday afternoon at the latest, weather forecasters said Sunday.

Mostly sunny skies should prevail in Southern California by midweek, according to meteorologists at WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times, and the National Weather Service.

But the forecast for today, Tuesday and Wednesday differs according to the weather services. WeatherData predicts morning fog and partly cloudy skies for today, while the National Weather Service forecasts a 20% chance of rain in the morning and otherwise partly cloudy skies, a prediction echoed by the U.S. Weather Bureau.

“It doesn’t look like Southern California will be impacted by storms during this week,” said John Sherwin of WeatherData. “The storm systems will start to move further northward over the Pacific Northwest.”

But Bill Hoffer of the public service unit of the National Weather Service was more cautious. “As long as these systems are over the water, they can do whatever they want,” he said.

High temperatures for today are expected to be in the low- to mid-60s with lows in the mid- to upper-40s.
