Oscar nominations--An Oscar Bit in Tuesday’s Calendar section incorrectly reported that the 1953 “Titanic” was nominated only for the best story and screenplay category, which it won. It was also nominated for best black-and-white art direction/set decoration.

The Longest Ride

Best actor nominees Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson both received their first Oscar nominations 28 years ago for “Easy Rider.” Nicholson was nominated for best supporting actor, and Fonda was nominated for co-writing the original screenplay.

A Very Good Year

Both best actor nominees Jack Nicholson and Robert Duvall won acting Oscars 14 years ago. Duvall won best actor for 1983’s “Tender Mercies,” and Nicholson won supporting actor for “Terms of Endearment.”

If Matt Damon, 27, wins best actor, he will be the youngest best actor winner. Richard Dreyfuss was 30 when he won for 1977’s “The Goodbye Girl.”

If best supporting nominee Gloria Stuart, 87, wins, she’ll be the oldest performer to win an Oscar. Groucho Marx currently holds the record. He was 83 when he was given an honorary Oscar.

Double Teaming

For the first time, two actresses are nominated for playing the same role in the same movie. Both Kate Winslet and Gloria Stuart were nominated for playing Rose in “Titanic.”
