Jewish Fund Drive Seeks a $4-Million Day

Share

Volunteers at the Jewish Federation’s Valley Alliance will hit the phones Sunday to kick off the busy fund-raising season, on what organizers hope will be the single most important day of the group’s fund-raising year.

Four federation sites throughout Los Angeles hope to raise $4 million in one day, working all day to solicit donations for the Jewish Federation’s United Jewish Fund.

The Valley Alliance alone has set a goal of raising $1.3 million.

More than 60% of the money raised on “Super Sunday” is expected to be used in local communities, while much of the remainder would go to Israel and 58 other countries to continue programs that provide social and educational services.

Los Angeles City Council members Laura Chick and Cindy Miscikowski, state Assemblyman Bob Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks), former Assemblyman Richard Katz, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) are each scheduled to take a shift on the phones.

Child care will be provided for participants.
