Paramedics Rescue Abandoned Baby

A 2-day-old baby girl abandoned in a Reseda park was in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services on Sunday night after city firefighters received an anonymous tip about a “problem” in a women’s restroom, authorities said.

Paramedics found the infant and a note: “Please take care of my baby. I’m too young. My father will kill me,” police said. The baby, discovered just after 6 p.m. at the Reseda Park and Recreation Center, 18411 Victory Blvd., was taken to Tarzana Regional Medical Center. Because the infant was in good health, investigators believe she was born in a hospital, not the restroom.

Police are checking local hospitals and looking for witnesses in an attempt to find the mother, said LAPD West Valley Sgt. Dan Mastro.

“The real sad thing about this is, it’s cold out there,” Mastro said. “If this call had been misplaced, there’s a good likelihood this baby would have ended up dying.”
