Bob Knight, a coach who doesn’t hand out praise lightly, had plenty for Ryan Bowen.

Bowen scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half in No. 14 Iowa’s 89-76 victory over Indiana on Wednesday at Bloomington, Ind., in the Big Ten opener for both schools.

“In a given period of time, in nine minutes, I’ve never seen a guy so dominate a game as Bowen did,” Knight said. “I think Bowen is a tremendous player.”

The senior forward scored seven points during a 15-2 run that gave the Hawkeyes, 12-1 overall, an 81-67 lead with 3:48 left. Ricky Davis added 22 points for Iowa.

Indiana (9-4) took a 63-62 lead with 9:20 left on a three-point basket by Luke Recker, who led the Hoosiers with 19 points. But Recker scored only once after the key Iowa spurt, on a three-point shot in the final minute.

“They just buried us inside,” Knight said. “Iowa is certainly at this point a much tougher team than we are, and that was shown in the last nine minutes of the game.”

No. 15 Florida State 66, DePaul 55--The Seminoles showed former coach Pat Kennedy what he left behind as Corey Louis had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the them past Kennedy’s new team in a nonconference game at Rosemont, Ill.

Kennedy, who was 202-131 in 11 years at Florida State, recruited Louis and every other player on the Seminoles before taking the DePaul job last June.

Florida State (11-2), which has won 29 of its last 31 games against non-Atlantic Coast Conference teams, is off to its second-best start. DePaul (3-8) is having another tough season after going 3-23 under Joey Meyer in 1996-97.

Georgetown 74, No. 22 West Virginia 65--Boubacar Aw’s three-point play with under three minutes to play allowed the Hoyas to reassume command of the Big East game at Washington.

West Virginia had a double-digit Georgetown lead to 61-57 and had the ball when Kenny Brunner stole the ball and called time out. When play resumed, Brunner made a bounce pass to Aw, who made a layup and was fouled. Aw completed the three-point play, and the Hoyas (11-2, 1-2 Big East) led by at least seven points the rest of the way.

Damian Owens and Greg Jones each scored 18 points for West Virginia (11-2, 1-2), which had its winning streak ended at six games.
