Wisconsin Takes a Sizable Beating

The hype about Wisconsin’s size and power was just that. Georgia dominated the Outback Bowl with quickness and precision.

Robert Edwards ran for three touchdowns and Mike Bobo finished a near-perfect passing performance with 19 consecutive completions to lead No. 12 Georgia to a 33-6 victory over Wisconsin on Thursday.

Edwards ran for 110 yards, while Bobo was 26 of 28 passing for 267 yards and a touchdown to earn the most valuable player award.

“The way we were able to come out in the first half and run the ball really opened up the passing game,” Bobo said. “We knew we had the speed advantage, but not the way we came out and ran by them. They were on their heels and looked confused.”

Wisconsin’s superior size, particularly on the offensive line where the Badgers average 324 pounds, proved to be a liability. Georgia’s smaller, but much quicker defensive front dominated the line of scrimmage.

Ron Dayne, Wisconsin’s 262-pound tailback, was held to 36 yards in 14 carries. He joined Herschel Walker and Marshall Faulk this season as the only players in NCAA history with more than 3,000 career rushing yards as sophomores.

Georgia, in its second year under Coach Jim Donnan, won six of its final seven games to finish at 10-2. Wisconsin (8-5) lost for the first time in four bowl games under Coach Barry Alvarez.
