STINGRAYS TODAY

Share

Opponent--Seattle Reign.

Time--4 p.m.

Site--Pyramid, Long Beach.

Records--Long Beach 16-10, Seattle 7-21.

Update--These teams met in Seattle on Nov. 8, and shortly after Long Beach had won, the Reign’s top rookie, Kate Starbird, talked about the adjustment from her Stanford All-America days to pro ball. She mentioned the more physical play, the wearying travel pace, then paused. “Actually, the biggest adjustment has been losing,” she said. “I hate it.” At the time, Seattle was a .500 team, a record Starbird no doubt now looks back upon with fondness. Today, Seattle is clearly the ABL’s worst team, having lost 10 of its last 11 games. If this keeps up, the Reign will be able solve its point guard problem with the league’s first draft choice by choosing Old Dominion’s Ticha Penecheiro. For the StingRays, today is the third game of their four-game home stand. Player/coach Teresa Edwards and the Atlanta Glory visit the Pyramid Tuesday. Long Beach plays at San Jose Wednesday night, then meets 6-7 Kara Wolters and the New England Blizzard Saturday night at the Pond of Anaheim.
