Dennis Green, who had threatened to resign as coach of the Minnesota Vikings, agreed Monday to remain through the 1998 season.

“We intend to put the past behind us and focus on our ultimate objective: getting to the Super Bowl and winning it,” Viking President Roger Headrick said.

Said Green: “I am convinced that Roger and I can work together and are on the same page for this upcoming season.

Green has one year left on his contract at $900,000, and Headrick has refused to talk about an extension while the team is for sale.

Still to be resolved is the status of offensive coordinator Brian Billick, who submitted his resignation last week so he could pursue other jobs. Headrick refused to accept it asked the NFL to look into it.

Green Bay Packer General Manager Ron Wolf reportedly has withdrawn from consideration for a similar job with the Seattle Seahawks, the News Tribune of Tacoma reported, citing sources with the Packers and Seahawks.

Also, Packer offensive coordinator Sherm Lewis met with Dallas owner Jerry Jones for two hours Monday to discuss the Cowboy coaching vacancy.

Dan Henning, a former head coach with the Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers, was hired as the New York Jets’ quarterback coach. Charlie Weis, the wide receiver coach, will become the offensive coordinator.
