Anybody Need a Psychic?
So we’ll go ahead and say it: He told you so.
In a Dec. 31, 1997 column listing his predictions for this year, Times’ local sports columnist Eric Sondheimer made prognostications about quarterback John Elway and local golfer J.T. Kohut.
Elway, Sondheimer wrote, “will lead the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl victory over the Green Bay Packers.” And, in the very next item, that Kohut “will make a hole in one.”
On Sunday, both predictions came true.
Kohut aced the 325-yard 13th hole at the Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks that morning. Later in the day, Elway guided the Broncos past the Packers.
Sondheimer was also correct when he tabbed Chuck Lyon to be hired as College of the Canyons’ football coach.
We’re not saying Sondheimer is perfect, though.
Rafael Berumen, a Simi Valley High forward, still hasn’t shattered a glass backboard with a dunk, like Sondheimer predicted.
Of course, there’s still a month to go in the regular season.
