North Hollywood Finds Idea Not Half Bad

Attention fashion police: another City Section boys’ basketball team is trying to make a statement.

Earlier this year, Birmingham High began wearing one horizontally-striped sock pulled high over the calf. Now, North Hollywood has taken the high-low effect one step further.

Starting last week, the Huskies begin pre-game warm-ups with one leg of their sweatpants rolled up high, giving the look of half shorts, half sweats.

The look is the brainchild of point guard DeJon Lee, who came up with the idea to promote team unity following a loss to Sylmar last week. So far, North Hollywood is 3-0 with the new get-up.

Mr. Positive: Taft sophomore guard Eric Alvarez is the talk of Northwest Valley Conference coaches because he’s always talking.

“I love the kid,” Birmingham Coach Al Bennett said. “He plays a role distributing the ball, always talking positive. In warmups, he’s going, ‘Come on guys, let’s go.’ ”
