Fifty Orange County high school students will participate in the Knowledge and Social Responsibility Program July 26 through Aug. 4 at UC Irvine.
Students from Buena Park, Cypress, Fountain Valley and other cities were selected to take part in the program to develop awareness of issues and critical-thinking skills for young leaders.
The event is sponsored by UCI and the National Conference for Community and Justice. Topics include violence, technology, media and the environment.
Students were chosen for their academic achievements and record of community involvement.
"After going through KSR, these students will have a commitment to help make this a better world for all of us," said Christina Gonzalez, assistant director of the program, said in a press release. "They'll realize they can start making a difference right away."
