Fire Crews Fight San Dimas Blaze, Other Hot Spots

Firefighters were battling a fire in the Angeles National Forest on Sunday as other crews across Southern California mopped up hot spots around the region.

A 50-acre blaze in Sycamore Canyon near San Dimas threatened homes, but no evacuations were ordered, said a Los Angeles County fire dispatcher. About 200 firefighters worked to contain the fire.

A series of small brush fires across Southern California charred about 1,038 acres by Saturday, but they were all at least partially contained by Sunday, according to the National Interagency Fire Coordination Center.

Near Kern County, about 385 firefighters battled a 50-acre brush fire that forced the evacuation of 50 children at Camp Condor near Frazier Park on Friday. The fire was 60% contained by Sunday morning and full containment was expected by sundown, Los Padres National Park officials said.

Firefighters, who were aided by three helicopters, expected to have the fire extinguished today.

A firefighter suffered an injured shoulder. No structures were threatened.

A fire in San Diego County charred about 800 acres and destroyed two mobile homes in a rural area near Barrett Junction before it was contained Saturday, leaving some hot spots. Full control was expected by 6 p.m. Sunday, yesterday, said California Department of Forestry Fire Capt. Jack McKee.

A crew member suffered a wrist injury in a blaze that broke out Friday afternoon about 35 miles east of San Diego, but no other injuries were reported.

About 100 firefighters doused a 120-acre fire near California 94 on Saturday night, McKee said. The blaze in Rancho San Diego that started at 3:15 p.m. Friday threatened some homes in the area, but no structures were damaged.

In Los Angeles County, it took crews about three hours to extinguish a 150-acre brush fire that broke out near Alpine Butte Wildlife Sanctuary in the Lake Los Angeles area, county fire dispatcher Andrea Hawkins said.

Investigators had not determined what caused the fires.
