Bohannon Brothers Roll to Hardcourt Championship

The doubles team of Dan Bohannon of Orange and Dave Bohannon of Garden Grove completed their title quest Sunday at the USTA National Men’s 50 and 55 Hardcourt Championships at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.

The Bohannons won the 50 division title by beating Peter Bronson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David Bryant of Oklahoma City, 7-5, 6-2, in the final. The Bohannons were the top-seeded team.

Bob Duesler of Newport Beach and Hank Leichtfried of Irvine didn’t fare as well in the 55 division doubles final against Jim Parker of Houston and Ken Robinson of San Carlos, Calif.

Parker and Robinson lost the first set, 3-6, and were leading in the second, 5-2, when a hamstring injury forced Leichtfried to retire.

Brian Cheney of Chandler, Ariz., won the 50 division singles title and Leland Housman of San Diego won the 55 division singles title.

The Bullfrogs completed the road season undefeated by beating Washington, 17-6, in a Major League Roller Hockey game Sunday in Laurel, Md.

Glenn Stewart had a hat trick in the first quarter and finished with five goals for the Bullfrogs (17-0). Stewart had six goals as the Bullfrogs beat Washington, 20-5, Saturday. Washington is 3-8.

The Bullfrogs, 10-0 on the road this season, outscored Washington, 86-18, in four meetings.

Darren Colburne had three goals to give him a tie for the team-lead at 34 with John Hanson who had two goals.

Brian Hawkes of Laguna Hills, who was unseeded, beat top-seeded Tony Jelso of Goleta, 15-7, 15-7, in the final of the men’s open singles division at the National Outdoor Racquetball Championships at Golden West College.

Hawkes, who won all but one year between 1981 and 1995, didn’t play last year because of shoulder injuries and the previous year’s performance determines seeding.

Andy and Greg Solis of Orange won the men’s open doubles title by beating Tim Ring and Kevin Booth, both of Newport Beach, 15-12, 9-15, 11-10.

The Zodiac fell out of first place in the Pacific Division by losing to host San Francisco, 3-0, in an A-League soccer game.

San Diego (11-5) beat Seattle, 2-1, and has 33 points. The Zodiac (11-8) has 31 points and is two points ahead of third-place Vancouver.

Mike Cavic, 13, took part in two record-setting performances over the weekend during the Southern California Swimming Championships at Heritage Aquatic Complex in Irvine.

Cavic, a member of the Irvine Novaquatics, set a Southern California age-group record in the 100-meter butterfly. His time of 57.98 seconds broke the 19-year-old record of 58.72 set by Filiberto Colon, then a member of the Mission Viejo Nadadores.

Cavic teamed with Aaron Peirsol, Jeff Heinz and Bryan Neff to set a national age-group record for the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:06.98.
