Ramirez, Vazquez Suspended
Aramis Ramirez of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Javier Vazquez of the Montreal Expos were each suspended Wednesday for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for their poor behavior in a game on July 17.
Ramirez, who was hit in the back by a pitch from Vazquez, was suspended for charging the mound, throwing his helmet toward Vazquez and instigating a bench-clearing incident.
Ramirez was scheduled to begin his suspension Friday.
Vazquez was suspended for intentionally throwing at Ramirez and also for instigating the bench-clearing brawl.
Vazquez pitched in Chicago on Wednesday night, and his suspension was to begin today.

The St. Louis Cardinals put right-handed starter Juan Acevedo on the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-hander Curtis King from triple-A Memphis.
