Eight years after a warrant for his arrest was issued, Clifton Oscar Floyd has been ordered to stand trial in the 1990 beating of his son, who was then 7 years old, with a belt. Floyd was a fugitive until his arrest last month.

Floyd will stand trial Aug. 3 on one count each of child beating and child endangering likely to result in bodily harm and death.

During a recent hearing, the prosecution showed 8-year-old photographs depicting belt marks on the body and face of Floyd’s son, who is now 15 years old.

The boy testified that he did not remember being beaten, but the photos and testimony from witnesses was decisive, said Deputy City Atty. Felise Cohen-Kalpakian.
